market stall

Feedback on the Holmfirth market stall

Our promotions, to enable us to be more integrated within the community and to help sell concerts, have met with some success. There has been disappointment as well. This has been partly down to learning how to do it and partly due to local hindrances and glitches. The latest venture – a market stall, was hampered by us being alone on the top floor. The chap organising the stalls seemed to take some perverse pleasure from this. Nevertheless the stall was brilliantly laid out and about 90 brochures were handed out and probably twice as many concert flyers. Thanks to the 20 or so choir members who came to support. Another thing – the guys are talking about this kind of thing more and more.

If we were to do it again, here are some suggestions:

Stall Placement

  • Book well in advance
  • High traffic areas, such as near drink and food stands or restrooms or a corner/end spot
  • If we were to become regular, people will get to know where we are
  • Think of different locations as well

Layout

  • Eye-catching colors
  • One high-quality item displayed prominently to attract attention
  • Prominent brand either side of the stall with striking display of the web address
  • Drinks and snacks/microphone to point out we are here

Promotion

  • Use social media to promote market stall in advance with dates, hours and location
  • Have an email sign-up list so you can send email reminders
  • Invest in shopping bags printed with logo (customprintedbags.co.uk from £49 for 100)
  • Display business/cards flyers
  • Offer discount coupons to returning visitors
  • xx perhaps most important promotion tip would be to share the stall – either with our sponsor or with an organisation that shares our objectives

Email about a stall during freshers week

Hi David and Steve

Just a quick note to advise that Laura has enquired about the Freshers’ Fair and they would be interested in talking to you about taking part. The person who is organising the event is Matthew Short and his contact details are:

Matt Short • Student Activities Manager • University of Huddersfield Students’ Union • Queensgate Huddersfield HD1 3DH

• T: 01484 473453 • E: matthew.short@hud.ac.uk •

I am copying Matt in to this email and, if you would like to drop him a line, he can give you further details.

With best wishes

Phone call with Matthew

Fresher’s week starts Mon 22nd September – we might be best used as a fringe performance event, though a sort of stall could still follow us. Matt will let us know best times and we’ll see what we can do.

Up date with Matthew

I had to ring him and email a few times before getting a reply the Thursday prior to freshers’ week asking for the choir to perform one lunchtime. Not possible on several levels.

Feedback on 2014 stall

Great stall and great partnership with Forget-Me-Not, but not enough people contact despite using chocolate cake to get them in. Much better than simply handing out literature.

We are going to explore other sites for the stall.
