From whenever, I’d an abiding interest in nature and biology. After college I thought about forestry and food science but somehow finished up as a teacher at Mount Pleasant Secondary School, Lockwood. Here I met a dedicated group of ex-forces teachers whose example I’ve tried to follow since. So I stayed for the next 34 years. Now it’s called Moor End Technology College and I’m the deputy head (or dogsbody if you prefer). Not bad for someone with no ambition.

I married Jaqui in 1970 and we’ve two children (Matt, science teacher and Becky, probation officer).

Teaching has moved a long way from the heady days of the 1970’s. They are still only kids, but something’s gone – dare I say to do with mutual respect and good manners. So I’m trying to retire or go part-time.
